A Rare Experience

I had the privilege to paint in the Bluffton Oyster Factory recently. In my first introduction to the ladies I was comforted to realize our connections from the past. These women start shucking before sunrise and produce an amazing volume of May River Oysters among the best in the world. This piece will be featured in my new book as well. It is part of an ongoing homage to the men and women that work in the Seafood harvest business. This Oyster Factory is the only remaining shucking house in SC. There was a time when nearly every creek that lead to the shore had a shucking house, often now just a pile of discarded shells or creek side shell bank hammocks.
